 Adventureland

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 7 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Outlaw: 2 injuries reported on this ride involved riders who were sitting in the last row of the roller coaster train. They both indicated back pain, which they said occurred during the first drop of the ride.
    • Tornado: 5 back related injuries occurred to riders sitting in the last row of the roller coaster train. All mentioned they came off the ride with back pain, with one rider indicating they were at fault for riding with pre-existing back issues.

 Splash Adventure (Formerly Known as Alabama Adventure)

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 5 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Rampage: the 5 injuries on this ride were back related. 3 injured riders were sitting in the back of the roller coaster train -- while 2 of the injured were sitting in the middle. 1 rider, who was sitting in the back of the train, mentioned back pain at the bottom of the first drop

 Alton Towers

  • 8/5/12: Several passengers were injured when a theme park monorail came to a sudden halt. Several people sustained cuts and bruises and were treated by the parks medical personnel. An investigation is pending.
  • 7/25/12: Reported that Rita's launch cable has snapped. No injuries have been reported.
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 10 injuries reported to ASO
  • 14 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Nemesis: 10 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Rita: 2 riders sustained neck related injuries on ride. 1 rider indicated he was not paying attention when ride took off hurting his neck. The other mentioned when the ride took off that they felt a pop in their neck. They indicated after a few days their neck felt better.
    • Air: 2 riders blacked out while on ride (with nose bleeds) -- indicated the lying position was not comfortable and the hot summer day did not help things.
 Beechbend
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
  • 6 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Kentucky Rumbler: 4 riders indicated back pain after riding this wooden roller coaster. All 4 complaints came from riders sitting in the last row of the roller coaster train.
      • 2 riders indicated side discomfort after getting off ride. Said during turns they hit their sides into the side of the roller coaster train. While the pain wasn't intense -- it was uncomfortable.
 Belmont Park
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
    • Tracking 3 more injuries, which according to information we received were the result of the riders riding with pre-existing injuries.
  • 4 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Giant Dipper: all 4 injured indicated back pain after getting off the ride. They attribute their back pain issues to a rough ride -- that "rattled" their bodies throughout the course of the ride. 2 riders were in the back of the train with 2 located in the first row.
 Buffalo Bills
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 4 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Desperado: 3 injuries reported involved back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. The 3 reported back injuries had one thing in common -- they all sat in the back of the roller coaster train and mentioned that they had their hands up during the ride.
      • 1 injury involved a rider sitting in a seat that had no one sitting in it the previous ride -- when the rider sat down, they burned the under side of both their right and left legs. This occurred during the summer according to the rider.
 Busch Gardens - Tampa
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 7 injuries reported to ASO
  • 20 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Montu: 11 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
      • 2 riders indicated blacking out on ride. Those riders indicated that they were dehydrated and had not had much to drink during the day.
    • Gwazi: 7 riders indicated back pain after riding roller coaster. All riders, for the exception of 1 rider, indicated sitting in the last row of the roller coaster car. That one rider was sitting in the first row of the roller coaster train. All mentioned back pain was caused by the first drop. With one of those riders, who was sitting in the back, said having his hands up during the drop was probably the issue.

There were also a large number of heat related issues with consumers at this park -- consumers not properly hydrating themselves. This park's first aid station offered cold water to those with issues and according to consumers were gracious and caring.

 Busch Gardens - Williamsburg
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
    • All involve Alpengeist roller coaster.
  • May 2012: Rider indicated blacking out on the Alpengeist roller coaster. Due to lack of fluids and heavy drinking the day before visiting the park.
  • 8 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Alpengeist: 8 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
      • 2 of the 8 mentioned blacking out on ride. They both attributed it to the hot humid conditions and drinking pop all day long.

First aid staff at this venue has received only positive marks for professionalism and service. Heat related issues were observed at this venue, but all were preventable had consumers properly hydrated and taken precautions.

 California's Great America
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 4 injuries reported to ASO
  • 17 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Grizzly: the 8 injuries on this ride were back related. Riders indicated that this ride caused back pain throughout ride. All 8 could not pin point an exact cause -- except that the ride was overly rough, not fun, and painful. Riders were seated throughout the roller coaster train.
    • Vortex: 5 riders complained of calf cramps after riding ride. Mentioned that standing throughout ride was not comfortable. All mentioned cramps became most notable when going through rides loops.
      • 1 rider mentioned shoulder pain when when going through inversions. Mentioned she may have been too small for ride. Did not notice any signage indicating minimum size for restraint.
    • Flight Deck: 3 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
 Canada's Wonderland
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 5 injuries reported to ASO
  • 21 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Flight Deck: 8 riders complained of neck and head pain after riding roller coaster:
      • 4 riders mentioned having their necks whipped around during the ride. Causing pain, with on rider indicating whiplash type injury.
      • 4 other riders mentioned ear and head pain from hitting into the restraint over and over again.
    • Wild Beast: the 3 injuries on this ride were back related. Injured riders were all sitting in the back of the roller coaster train and mentioned that this ride was rough and uncomfortable. One rider indicated feeling confined with nowhere to really move, which they felt was a cause of the back pain.
    • Skyrider: 3 riders sustained ride related injuries on this ride:
      • 1 rider indicated severe calf cramps, which they felt was caused to the stand-up position. They also went on to say, perhaps, they were not properly secure in ride -- as they felt they were more in a squatting position.
      • 2 riders indicated shoulder pain caused by their shoulders striking the over-the-shoulder restraints repeatedly during the ride.
 Canobie Lake
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 0 injuries reported to ASO
  • 3 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Yankee Cannonball: the 3 injuries on this ride were back related. Riders indicated the ride was rough and caused their bodies to move around in a violent nature. 1 rider went a step further and indicated that the roller coaster trains seemed to small for bigger people -- which meant awkward seating positions.
 Carowinds
  • 7/14/12: Windseeker stranded some 25 riders aboard. After about an hour, the ride lowered the passengers to about 30 feet in the air, where they were stranded for nearly two hours before getting back on the ground. A sensor in the ride engaged, causing the safety system to activate according to the park.
    Maintenance adjusted the sensitivity of the safety brake and ran test cycles and the ride was reopened.
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 7 injuries reported to ASO
  • 25 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Afterburn: 7 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Nighthawk: 4 riders complained of nose bleeds and blacking out during this ride. All have indicated the lying position was uncomfortable and they felt attributed to their issues.
    • Vortex: 4 riders complained of calf cramps after riding ride. Mentioned that standing throughout ride was not comfortable. 1 rider indicated that he also felt his knee pop during the ride. Knee pain, according to him wasn't not serious, but painful enough to cause a slight limp the rest of his visit.
    • Hurler: 4 riders complained of back and neck pain after riding this roller coaster. It's been mentioned that the rough out of control nature of this ride, is painful and not fun. One ride mentioned that they understand wooden roller coasters should be bumpy -- but this was too much.
    • Carolina Cobra: 3 riders complained of neck and ear pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All mentioned that the backwards portion of the ride whipped their necks around striking their ears on the restraint in the process.
    • Carolina Cyclone: 3 riders complained of neck pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All 3 mentioned sitting in the back of the roller coaster train. This, according to them, caused their necks to be whipped front to back and side to side.
 Cedar Point
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 13 injuries reported to ASO
    • Good deal involve Raptor and Magnum XL-200.
  • 6/4/12: Windseeker broke down this past weekend in the middle of the ride, leaving riders stuck some 150+ feet in the air. None of the nearly 30 people on the ride were hurt, and their harnesses remained locked until maintenance workers were able to bring them down manually. Cedar Point says the  ride will not reopen until they're sure it is safe. Riders have said that a gust of wind is to blame, it apparently pulled the towers wires away from it and when the ride descended, they got caught up. Ride has been reopened according to a park employee.
  • 37 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Raptor: 18 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Mantis: 8 riders complained of neck and shoulder pain associated with riding this stand-up roller coaster. All indicated a rough ride -- with most pain being felt during the ride's first loop.
    • Maverick: 4 riders complained of neck and shoulder pain associated with riding this roller coaster. It was mentioned that that turns and inversions on this ride caused riders to hit their shoulders into their restraints and to all also snap their necks around.
    • Top Thrill Dragster: 3 riders complained of neck pain associated with this ride's launch. All 3 admitted to not keeping their heads back, which caused them to snap their necks back when the ride took off.
    • Magnum XL-200: 2 riders complained of back pain. They both indicated upper back pain after riding this roller coaster. Pin pointing a rough bouncy ride that was painful throughout.
    • Mean Streak: 2 riders complained of back pain and blurry vision associated with riding this ride:
      • 1 rider complained of back pain after riding this wooden roller coaster. Called it, "biggest mistake of my life." Says the ride was so rough and painful that his back could not take it. Indicated a upper back strained.
      • 1 rider indicated the ride shook her so much that she came off the ride with blurry vision and believes the ride triggered a subsequent migraine headache.

Mean Streak saw a huge drop in consumer complaints. Park employees who share information with us say those who know how bad the ride is avoid it. Period. While another said the park's team, who works on this ride, has gone to great lengths to make this ride enjoyable. 

 Cliff's Amusement Park
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 0 injuries reported to ASO
  • 4 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • New Mexico Rattler: 4 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. While not necessarily rough -- they mentioned a ride that tossed them around side to side, which caused back related injuries.
 Darien Lake
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 8 injuries reported to ASO
  • 28 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Mind Eraser: 11 riders complained of back, neck, and ear pain associated with riding this roller coaster:
      • 5 riders mentioned having their necks whipped around during this ride -- causing neck pain.
      • 4 riders mentioned repeatedly having their ears hit into the rides restraints. Causing muffled hearing.
      • 2 riders mentioned back pain associated with riding this roller coaster with one rider saying this ride threw them around, taking out the rides forces on their back.
    • Boomerang Coast to Coaster: 8 riders complained of neck and ear pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Riders mentioned it only happening during the backwards portion of the ride. All 8 injured were a combination of ear and neck pain.
    • Predator: 7 riders of back pain on this roller coaster. Indicated a rough roller coaster that was more painful than fun.
    • Viper: 2 riders mentioned neck pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Both riders mentioned having their necks whipped around after coming out of this rides loop. That loop, we found, was the batwing loop.
After a man, 29, was killed on the Ride of Steel roller coaster -- consumer perception of this venues overall safety went out the window.
 Disney California Adventure Park
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 5 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • California Screamin': 5 neck injuries due to riders failing to keep their heads back during this rides launch. All 5 indicating they were at fault for not paying attention and keeping their heads back as told by ride operators and spiels.

There were also instances of riders being struck by loose articles, but no serious injuries were reported.

 Disney's Animal Kingdom
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 13 injuries reported to ASO
  • 39 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Dinosaur: 39 riders complained of back and neck injuries associated with riding this ride:
      • the 22 back injuries reported for this ride seemed to centered around this rides jerky rough movements. Riders mentioned despite their best efforts to sit back -- this ride kept moving them around.
      • the 17 neck injuries on this ride appeared to occur due to this rides sudden movements. Riders described having their necks whipped around as they rode the ride.

There were not significant injuries reported on Primeval Whirl or Expedition Everest. There were 5 injuries reported, but they were not serious enough to be published.

 Disney's EPCOT
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 0 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Mission Space: Most reported issues with this ride involved riders throwing up after riding. With all indicating they should not have been on the ride. There were also instances of riders who said this ride triggered migraine headaches. As of this report, we're still looking into these claims.

 Disney's Hollywood Studios

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
    • A lot of heat related issues at this park, too.
  • 6 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011

    • Rock n' Roller Coaster: the 3 injuries on this ride consisted of neck pain. All 3 said this ride whipped their necks around pretty well. They said despite keeping their heads back -- their necks were whipped around by this rides forces.

    • Star Tours: the 3 injuries on this ride consisted of back pain and an arm injury:
      • The 2 back injuries on this ride resulted from riders saying the intense nature of the ride was too much for their backs to handle. These riders were 68-years-old and 73-years-old.
      • The one arm injury involved a rider who was attempting to keep their child back against their seat, as they were scared. In the process the rider dislocated a previously injured shoulder.

 Disney's Magic Kingdom

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
  • 9 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Splash Mountain: the 9 injuries on this ride consisted of slip and falls. All 9 saying they were being rushed out of their logs when they slipped. Most of the slips consisting of riders using a wet seat to get up.

Only 9 injuries for a park that attracts so many guests is impressive and it's important that it be noted.

 Disneyland

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 22 injuries reported to ASO
    • Indiana Jones again. Back and neck injuries.
  • 53 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Indiana Jones: the 47 injuries on this ride were neck and back related:
      • 27 neck related injuries were attributed to this rides' jerky motions and sudden drops, which according to riders, is painful and caused their necks to snap around. Several riders mentioned understanding it's apart of the off road aspect of the ride, but it was too painful and not fun.
      • 20 back related injuries were associated with this riders being thrown around the ride vehicle. 4 of the injured mentioned the ride's seatbelt as keeping you still, but allowing your back to take the beating.
    • Splash Mountain: the 5 injuries on this ride consisted of slip and falls. Resulting in riders using the inside seat as a step, which was wet, and caused them to lose their stepping.

There were a few more injuries were were tracking, but could not confirm them. We did, however, disprove 49 injuries at this park due to baseless and ridiculous claims.

 Disneyland Hong Kong

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 0 injuries reported to ASO
    • Heat related issues stemming from hot humid weather.
  • 0 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • General: Heat related illness is an issue at this park during the hot humid summer months. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! There were ride related incidents, but nothing worth noting as of yet.

 Disneyland Paris

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 5 injuries reported to ASO
  • 21 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Indiana Jones et le Temple du P�ril: 9 riders complained of neck pain associated with riding this roller coaster. They mentioned rough sudden movements -- which whipped their necks around.
      • 8 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Mentioned a rough uncomfortable ride.
    • Space Mountain: Mission 2: the 4 injuries were neck related. Riders mentioned the being  caught off guard by the rides forces and not being able to see where they were going.

 Disneyland Paris - Walt Disney Studios Park

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 4 injuries reported to ASO
  • 4 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011  
    • Rock 'n' Roller Coaster: the 4 injuries on this ride consisted of neck related injury. Riders indicated that the ride swung their necks around during the course of the ride. One rider indicated that their neck was snapped back during this rides initial launch -- due to them not paying attention.

 Disneyland Tokyo

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 0 injuries reported to ASO
  • 3 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Splash Mountain: the 3 injuries on this ride consisted of slip and falls. All 3 saying they were being rushed out of their logs when they slipped on the inside of it -- causing them to fall forward.

 DisneySea Tokyo

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 8 injuries reported to ASO
  • 7 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Raging Spirits: 7 riders complained of back and neck pain associated with riding this roller coaster. They mentioned rough sudden movements -- which whipped their necks around.
      • 4 riders complained of neck pain after riding this roller coaster. They mentioned rough sudden movements -- which whipped their necks around.
      • 3 riders complained of back pain after riding this roller coaster. Pain they said was due to rough uncomfortable drops, which they said was absorbed by their lower to middle back.
 Dollywood
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 11 injuries reported to ASO
  • 19 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Tennessee Tornado: 10 riders indicated that they blacked out on this roller coaster. Mentioned intense loops. During follow ups, riders were asked what it was with the loops, which they indicated were  powerful and created intense pressure on their bodies.
    • Mystery Mine: 5 riders complained of neck r pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Indicated that while the ride wasn't rough, several portions of the ride caused their necks to be whipped around.
    • Thunderhead: 4 riders complained of back pain on this wooden roller coaster. Riders indicated being moved around from side to side during the ride and with a tight lap bar weren't able to move themselves into a comfortable riding position.
 Dorney Park
  • 7/30/12: Stinger valleyed before the 2nd lift hill. No injuries were reported. Unknown if riders were on the ride at the time of the valley.
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 4 injuries reported to ASO
  • 6/6/12: Riders on the Stinger were stuck dangling for about 90 minutes on a 138-foot hill. Emergency crews were called, but ride operators were able to reverse the ride and bring the riders down safely. Unknown how many riders were on the ride. No injuries were reported.
  • 22 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Talon: 22 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride,. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.

There were also 4 issues with riders coming off this ride with bloody noses. After a follow-up it was determined that they all had not had any fluids, it was warm outside, and they rode in the middle of afternoon. This park also received a low number of injury and safety complaints (45). Yes, 23 injury and safety complaints were disproven by ASO.

 Elitch Gardens
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 5 injuries reported to ASO
  • 8 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Twister II: 4 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. They mentioned a rough painful roller coaster, which seemed to go on forever. 2 riders, mentioned riding when it was a colder day, which they felt may have caused their backs to tighten up -- facilitating injury.
    • Boomerang: 2 riders complained of neck and ear pain associated with riding this roller coaster. 1 rider mentioned their neck being whipped around during the whole ride -- while another rider mentioned it only happening during the backwards portion of the ride.
    • Mind Eraser: 2 riders complained of neck and ear pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Unlike the Boomerang roller coaster, they said the restraints assisted in making their injuries less painful, as they were padded and "soft." They said it felt as if they were being lifted off their seat and banged around during the ride, which was painful and no fun.
 Frontier City
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 0 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Miscellaneous: Besides complaints of rides always broken down -- there were a lot of heat related issues sent to us. Many center around consumers who didn't take proper precautions -- such as drinking water, resting, wearing light clothing, etc... We saw more than our fair share of heat related issues at this park and advise consumers to prepare themselves for the hot humid Oklahoma summer.
 Fuji-Q Highland
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 7 injuries reported to ASO
  • 16 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Dondopa: 7 riders complained of of neck and back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Riders failing to stay seated back before launch was a major issue with these injuries. 2 riders, however, mentioned that their necks were whipped around when the went down the rides main hill.
    • Eejanaika: 5 riders mentioned groin discomfort -- with bruising after riding roller coaster. 3 of the riders mentioned loss of feeling in their legs as well after getting off of ride.
    • Fujiyama: 2 riders complained of back pain after riding this roller coaster. They mentioned that the roller coaster was rough and triggered lower back pain. They indicated that end of the ride, during "the bumps," is what hurt and really caused the most pain.
    • Takabisha: 2 riders complained of neck and shoulder pain associated with riding this roller coaster. They mentioned during various inversions, their necks would move around and their shoulders slam into the restraint causing pain.
 Galaxyland
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 9 injuries reported to ASO
  • 11 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Mindbender: 11 injuries on this ride all centered around the neck and head:
      • 8 riders complained of neck pain after riding this ride. They mentioned their necks being flung around coming out of this rides loops.
      • 3 riders complained of headache and nausea after riding this roller coaster. They mentioned how their heads slammed around into the rides restraints, with one rider saying despite keep their head back -- they could not control it.
 Great Escape (Six Flags Park)
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 4 injuries reported to ASO
  • 12 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Steamin' Demon: 7 riders have complained of back, neck, and ear related issues with this roller coaster:
      • 3 riders mentioned a rough ride, which threw them around -- causing back pain. 2 riders complained of upper back pain while the other mentioned pops in the middle of their back.
      • 2 riders mentioned having their necks twisted around during this ride. Overall they said the ride was rough and to them this translated in neck pain.
      • 2 riders had their ears hit repeatedly into this rides restraint. Which caused ringing in the ears and bruising.
    • Boomerang Coast to Coast: 5 riders complained of neck associated with riding this roller coaster. All mentioning that  there necks were whipped around during the backwards part of the ride. No mention of the frontwards portion of this ride causing issues.
 Holiday World
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 5 injuries reported to ASO
  • 25 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • The Voyage: 17 riders complained of a wide range of issues associated with riding this roller coaster:
      • 7 riders mentioned back pain after riding this roller coaster. Mentioning that pain became a lot more prevalent as the ride went on and they attempted to keep their backs straight.
      • 5 riders mentioned neck pain associated with this roller coaster. Mentioned the nature of the ride caused their necks to move around violently throughout the ride.
      • 3 riders indicated that the rough nature of this ride triggered migraine headaches.
      • 2 riders indicated that this ride caused blurry vision and vomiting due to the rough nature of the ride.
    • Legend: 5 injuries were reported on this ride and all involved back related issues. With all 5 riders indicating they were sitting in the back of the train.
    • Raven: the 3 injuries on this ride were all back related as well. 2 riders were sitting in the middle of the train, while the one other rider was in the back of the train.
 Hershey Park
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 9 injuries reported to ASO
  • 13 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Great Bear: 8 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride,. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Storm Runner: 5 injuries were reported on this ride and all involved neck related injuries -- all due to riders failing to keep their heads back during the rides initial launch.

Heat related issues were also common at this venue. Guests mentioned that this park did not do a good job of offering affordable cold water. During a visit in 2011, we found readily available, with various food stands offering free ice cold water.

 Indiana Beach
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
  • 6 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Cornball Express: 3 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All 3 mentioned a rough ride that took its toll on their lower backs.
    • Steel Hawg: 3 injuries were reported on this ride and all involved shoulder related injury. Riders said during this ride their shoulders were smashed into the restraint causing pain and discomfort. All 3, however, did mention the ride was unique and fun.
 Kemah Boardwalk
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 14 injuries reported to ASO
    • Back and neck injuries.
  • 17 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Boardwalk Bullet: 11 injuries on this roller coaster revolved around back pain. Riders indicating the rough nature of this ride tossed them around within their seat, causing an uncomfortable ride, which resulted in back injury.
      • 4 injuries on this roller coaster involved neck related issues. Those involved riders sitting in the last row of the roller coaster train.
      • 2 injuries involved riders who had blurry vision and headache after getting off ride. These two occurred during the summer months, with both riders saying heat and lack of water played a huge role.
 Kennywood
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 5 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Phantoms Revenge: the 5 injuries on this ride were back related. All 5 riders mentioned a rough roller coaster -- especially during the first drop. All 5 back related injuries reported -- were mid and upper back strains.
 Kings Dominion
  • 7/20/12: Rider Found Unresponsive After Ride on Dominator
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 11 injuries reported to ASO
    • Heat related issues stemming from hot humid weather were reported.
  • 52 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Hurler: 21 injuries on this ride were all back/neck related. Riders indicated being thrown around on the ride and that it ran extremely rough and uncomfortable.
    • Rebel Yell: 11 injuries on this ride were back related. Riders mentioned a rough ride that caused back pain, with those being lower back related.
    • Shockwave: the 10 injuries on this ride were shoulder related. Riders have mentioned the rides roughness a rough transitions and movements have caused shoulder injuries -- with two riders separating their shoulders.
    • Intimidator 305: 10 riders on this ride reporting blacking out and not remembering portions of the ride. One rider indicating that the forces created by this ride caused a blood vessel to pop in their eye.
 Kings Island
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 9 injuries reported to ASO
  • 18 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • The Beast: the 18 injuries on this ride were all back/neck related. 14 of these injuries took place within the last row of the roller coaster train.

Not a lot of safety issues coming out of Kings Island, for the exception of The Beast. There were a lot of heat related incidents, but those were due to guests not properly hydrating.

 Knott's Berry Farm
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 40 injuries reported to ASO
    • Ghostrider - back and neck related injuries.
  • 77 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Ghostrider: 73 injuries on this ride were back/neck related as well as other types of injuries. Riders indicate a rough, bouncy, painful ride.
      • 33 back/neck related.
      • 19 stomach related injuries due to the lap bar ramming into their stomachs.
      • 10 riders indicated that the roughness of this ride triggered a migraine headache.
      • 11 riders indicating coming off this ride with blurry vision, headache, and vomiting.
    • Boomerang: 4 riders complained of neck associated with riding this roller coaster. All mentioned that  there necks were whipped around during the backwards part of the ride.

One of the more cooperative parks when it comes to obtaining information. From line employees that is.

 Lake Compounce
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 9 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Wildcat: 4 injuries on this ride were all back/neck related. Riders mentioned that certain spots of the ride were painful.
    • Zoomerang: 3 injuries on this ride were head related. Riders mentioned during the backwards portion of the ride, their ears heat against the restraint causing pain. With one ride indicating it ripped her earring out of her ear. When asked why she'd wear an earring on a roller coaster -- she had no answer.
    • Boulder Dash: the 2 injuries on this ride were back related. Riders, interestingly enough, noted that this was not due to a rough ride, but by being "caught off guard," by how intense the ride was.
 Legoland - California
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 7 injuries reported to ASO
  • 2 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Technic Coaster: the 2 injuries on this roller coaster centered around back pain. The two adult riders mentioned a first drop that caught them off guard -- causing them to strain their back in the process.

There were more incidents, however, we have had a hard time obtaining information. We'd go s far to say it's been one of the toughest. We're looking into a few more incidents reported to ASO and will report/update this entry when we're able to confirm.

 Luna Park
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 15 injuries reported to ASO
  • 19 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Cyclone: Rider injuries varied and will be broken down below -
      • 11 back related injuries. These seem to center around the rides first drop. 9 of the injured indicated sitting in the last row of the roller coaster train. The other 2 were located in the middle part of the train.
      • 4 injuries were vision related. Riders indicated that the shook their head around so violently that after getting off the ride they had issues seeing.
      • 4 injuries involved riders biting their tongue due to the rough nature of the ride. They indicated that the ride was rough enough that they bit their tongues, with one rider indicating that a bracket came loose on their braces.
 Magic Springs
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
  • 7 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Gauntlet: the 5 injuries on this ride were neck related. Riders indicated that their necks were whipped around during the ride -- with the feeling that they were being held in place during inversions and having their necks pushed around violently.
    • X-Coaster: the 2 injuries on this ride were interesting. They both involved nose bleeds. Both riders mentioned nothing particular with the ride, but did say they felt it had to do with the vertical lift and intensity of the ride.

 Michigan's Adventure

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 12 injuries reported to ASO
  • 14 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Thunderhawk: the 4 injuries on were neck and head related. Riders indicated that the rough nature of the ride caused their heads and necks to whip around violently.
    • Corkscrew: Shoulder injury, which the rider indicates was due to hitting the top of their shoulder while going into an inversion.
    • Adventure Falls & Logger's Run: Slip and falls occurred while riders were exiting. Both indicating they lost their footing on the wet surface inside of the ride vehicle.
    • Shivering Timbers: Back injuries due to rough nature of ride. 4 involving riders sitting in the back of the roller coaster train. 1 involving a rider in the front row. 2 involving riders in the middle of the train.

 Mirabilandia

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
  • 10 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Katun: 6 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact cause.
    • iSpeed: 4 injuries on this roller coaster were neck related. Riders indicating that the ride whipped their necks around during inversions on the ride. 2 of the injured indicated neck spasms after getting off of ride.

 Morey's Piers

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 0 injuries reported to ASO
  • 8 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Fly The Great Nor'Easter: the 4 injuries on this ride consisted of neck related spasms after getting off of the ride. 3 of the 4 said while the ride's restraint system was comfortable -- the nature of the ride was too much for the neck. Whipping it around.
    • The Great White: the 4 injuries on this ride were back related. Injured riders were all sitting in the back of the roller coaster train. One rider, however, indicated they felt the ride was overly rough and aggressive.

Perception of this park was some of the worse -- due in part to 5 Injured on Morey Piers Ride and a Girl, 11, Falling From Ferris Wheel in 2011.

 Mount Olympus

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 11 injuries reported to ASO
  • 19 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Hades: 8 back injuries were reported for this ride. All riders described a rough out of control ride that caused back pain -- including 2 riders who said the pain lasted for weeks.
    • Cyclops: the 5 injuries on this ride were all back related. Injured riders pointing to a ride that packed a punch. All injured riders on this ride were sitting in the back of the roller coaster train.
    • Zeus: the 4 injuries on this ride were all back related as well and all took place in the last row of the roller coaster train. Riders were quick to point out a rough ride that did nothing more than cause pain and discomfort.
    • Pegasus: the 2 injuries on this ride were back related. Both riders being children (under the age of 14). Both parents indicating not to be fooled by the size of this wooden roller coaster -- a case of more than meets the eye.

 Nagashima Spa Land

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 8 injuries reported to ASO
  • 9 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • White Cyclone: the 9 injuries on this ride were neck and back related:
      • 5 back related injuries on this ride were attributed to a the rough nature of this ride -- mainly with riders sitting in the middle to back of the roller coaster train.
      • the 4 neck injuries sustained were attributed to the rough nature of this ride. One rider, said it felt like every turn and drop was being absorbed by his neck.

 New York New York

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 44 injuries reported to ASO
  • 57 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • The Roller Coaster: the 57 injuries on this ride involved:
      • 28 back injuries. Riders seemed to point at a rough jerky ride, which took a toll on their backs.
      • 19 shoulder injuries. Riders indicated should pain after riding this ride -- indicating the rides rough nature caused them to hit the top of their shoulders into the restraints. 4 indicating the pain was enough that they could not raise their arms.
      • 5 riders complained of neck pain. Indicated the ride whipped their necks around violently.
      • 5 riders complained of blurry vision after getting off of the ride. Said the rough nature and violent shaking caused them to get off the ride and have issues with their vision.

 Nickelodeon Universe

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
    • A lot of trip and falls within venue have been reported.
  • 9 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge: 9 riders complained of neck pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Indicated several portions of the ride caused their necks to be whipped around. All 9 injuries, for obvious reasons, mirrored those of the the ones sustained on Mystery Mine at Dollywood Theme Park.

 Parc Asterix

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 8 injuries reported to ASO
  • 14 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Tonnerre de Zeus: the 10 injuries on this roller coaster all involved back pain. Riders indicated a rough wild ride that was just too much for their back to handle. One ride indicated it wasn't a bad ride, fun actually, but it really hurt.
    • Goudurix: the 4 injuries on this ride were neck related. Indicated having their necks whipped around coming out of the loops.

 Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 3 injuries reported to ASO
    • Back related injuries on Giant Dipper
  • 5 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Giant Dipper: the 5 injuries on this wooden roller coaster centered around back related issues. While small and compact, riders indicated a rough ride that caused back pain.

No other injuries reported on this parks 2 other roller coasters.

 SeaWorld - Orlando

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 12 injuries reported to ASO
  • 8 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Manta: 8 riders complained of blacking out on this ride. 2 of the 8 mentioned getting a bloody nose as well. All 8 attributed this to lying in a prone position. They mentioned a smooth and fun ride with their issues more with being in a  lying down position.

There were also A LOT of heat related issues at this park -- we'll detail those in a later post.

 SeaWorld - San Diego
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 4 injuries reported to ASO
  • 5/16/12: A park mechanic suffered facial while working on the Wild Arctic flight-simulator ride. According to California Occupational Safety and Health, the worker was checking a leaking hydraulic plug when it popped off. The man was breathing and conscious when firefighters arrived.  Injuries were not life-threatening.
  • 0 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Misc: A popular park, one which we receive a fair amount of feedback on. There were no injuries reported in 2011. All feedback, for the most part, involved Shamu and concerned parents regarding the death of a trainer in Florida.
 SeaWorld - San Antonio
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 14 injuries reported to ASO
  • 19 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Great White: 19 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride,. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact cause. Riders also mentioning blacked out on this ride as well. Not the first time we have come across this type of incident, however, the first when riders mentioned not being dehydrated.
 Silver Dollar City
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 5 injuries reported to ASO
  • 9 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Wildfire: 9 riders complained of calf cramps after riding ride. Mentioned that standing throughout ride was not comfortable. All mentioned cramps became most notable when going through rides loops. There were mentions of shoulder discomfort with the restraint system as well. No shoulder injuries were reported, however.

 Silverwood

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 7 injuries reported to ASO
  • 11 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Aftershock: the 3 injuries on this ride were neck related. Riders indicated that this ride caused their neck to be snapped around -- but only during the reverse portion of the ride. All 3 were sitting in the back of the roller coaster car.
    • Tremors: the 7 injuries on this ride were back related. Injured riders were all sitting in the back of the roller coaster train. 
    • Roaring Creek Log Flume: 1 rider slipped out of the flume -- indicated it was their fault for not paying attention.
 Six Flags America
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 11 injuries reported to ASO
    • 24 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Roar: the 15 injuries on this ride were back related. All 15 riders who reported back injuries were sitting in the last 2 rows of the roller coaster train.
    • The Mind Eraser: the 11 injuries on this ride were neck related. Riders mentioned having their necks violently whipped around during the ride. No head or ear related injuries reported.
 Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
  • 7/29/12: A dozen riders on Superman Ultimate Flight were safely off-loaded after being stuck in the air for almost two hours. All were safely returned to the station after the ride was successfully restarted. Unknown what caused the issue.
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 20 injuries reported to ASO

    • Kong: the 29 injuries on this ride were neck as well head and ear related related:
      • 15 riders indicating having their necks whipped around during the course of the ride, causing neck pain.
      • 7 riders mentioned having the side if their heads slammed into the restraint -- causing headache. 1 rider mentioned this caused a migraine headache.
      • 7 riders indicated having their ears striking this rides restrain causing muffled hearing and bruising.
    • Roar: the 18 injuries on this ride were back related. Riders mentioned a rough ride that threw them around.
    • Boomerang Coast to Coaster: 5 riders complained of neck associated with riding this roller coaster. All mentioned that  there necks were whipped around during the backwards part of the ride.
 Six Flags Fiesta Texas
  • 8/6/12: A look into the Rattler's past:
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 13 injuries reported to ASO
    • Rattler to close August 5th.
  • 29 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Rattler: the 22 injuries on this ride were back and neck related. Riders indicated a rough non enjoyable ride:
      • 15 riders mentioned back pain after getting off of this ride.
      • 7 riders mentioned neck pain.
  • Boomerang: 7 riders complained of neck associated with riding this roller coaster. All mentioned that  there necks were whipped around during the backwards part of the ride.
With regard to The Rattler, one employee we spoke with said the ride is rough, yes, but they felt guests were making it a bigger deal than it really was. When asked how -- they said the ride has a reputation for being rough and uncomfortable and that sways public perception. They did tell us the park was going to do some things to the ride to make the ride experience more enjoyable.
 Six Flags Great Adventure
  • 7/26/12: Boy Struck by Bird

    • Batman The Ride: 22 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride,. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Superman - Ultimate Flight: 10 riders mentioned blacking out during the ride. Say lying down had a lot to do with it as the sensation was uncomfortable.
    • El Toro: 8 riders complained of back pain after riding this roller coaster. Mentioned while surprisingly smooth, the sudden movements caused back pain related issues.
    • Kingda Ka: 5 riders complained of neck pain associated with this rides launch. Despite keep their heads back, riders say the force generate by the ride caused them neck pain. All 5 did mention that the neck pain was a lot like a stiff neck.
    • Green Lantern: 4 riders complained of calf cramps after getting off of this roller coaster. Riders mentioned during the ride that it seemed all pressure was being placed on their legs during this rides inversions.
 Six Flags Great America
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 21 injuries reported to ASO

    • Batman The Ride: 19 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride,. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Superman - Ultimate Flight: 14 riders mentioned blacking out during the ride. Say lying down had a lot to do with it as the sensation was uncomfortable.
    • American Eagle: the 10 injuries on this wooden roller coaster involved back related injury. Riders mentioned this rides rough bumpy ride that was painful and not much fun.
 Six Flags Magic Mountain
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 32 injuries reported to ASO
  • 86 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Green Lantern: 37 riders complained of multiple issues associated with riding this roller coaster:
      • 18 riders mentioned chest injuries after riding, with both mentioning having issues breathing when they got off the ride.
      • 10 riders complained of having their necks whipped around straining them with 4 riders saying they sustained cervical sprains.
      • 5 riders complained of back pain associated with being thrown around on this roller coaster.
      • 4 riders mentioned blacking out on this roller coaster as it violently whipped them around.
    • Batman The Ride: 17 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Goliath: 10 riders made mention of blacking out on this ride.
    • Tatsu: 10 riders mentioned blacking out on this ride as well, during the pretzel loop. 4 of the riders mentioned a bloody nose associated with this as well.
    • Riddler's Revenge: 7 riders complained of calf cramps after getting off of this roller coaster. Riders mentioned during the ride that it seemed all pressure was being placed on their legs during this rides inversions.
    • X2:  5 riders complained of breathing issues while on this ride. One rider pointed out the restraint pushing in on their chest and being uncomfortably tight.
 Six Flags New England

    • Cyclone: 37 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All injuries seem to stem from a rough uncomfortable ride. With one rider saying: "was no fun being bounced and punched around like that."
    • Mind Eraser: the 16 injuries on this ride were neck as well ear related related:
      • 9 riders indicating having their necks whipped around during the course of the ride, causing neck pain.
      • 7 riders indicated having their ears striking this rides restrain causing muffled hearing and bruising.
 Six Flags Over Georgia

    • Batman The Ride: 20 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Ninja: 20 riders complained of  shoulder and neck pain associated with riding this roller coaster:
      • 12 riders mentioned striking their shoulders into this rides restraint. 1 rider mentioning they suffered an ac joint separation.
      • 8 riders mentioned neck pain after riding this roller coaster. They indicated a rough ride that bounced their neck around.
    • The Georgia Cyclone: 9 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All 9 riders were sitting within the back part of the roller coaster train.
    • The Georgia Scorcher: 7 riders complained of calf cramps after getting off of this roller coaster.
    • Superman Ultimate Flight: 7 riders mentioned blacking out during the ride. Say lying down had a lot to do with it as the sensation was uncomfortable.
 Six Flags Over Texas
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 27 injuries reported to ASO
  • 48 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Judge Roy Scream: 21 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All riders made mention of a rough bouncy ride that was translated into back pain. 3 riders indicated they left the park after riding due to the pain in their back.
    • Batman The Ride: 19 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Titan: 8 riders blacked out on ride. Exact cause unknown. Riders noted no previous medical issues.

 Six Flags St. Louis

  • 7/19/12: The Mr. Freeze roller coaster froze as it did not get enough power when it shot out of the gate, which could have been caused by a power surge. The roller coaster made it to the top and stalled on the return in a low spot on the ride. It took 17 minutes to remove all the passengers from the ride. The ride, after testing, is now again operational.
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 21 injuries reported to ASO
  • 58 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Boss: 23 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All riders mentioned a rough out of control ride that was painful on the back. Those back injuries were primarily upper back strains.
    • Batman The Ride: 15 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Screamin' Eagle: 11 riders complained of back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. Those back injuries, however, were lower strains.
    • Ninja: 9 riders complained neck and shoulder pain associated with riding this roller coaster. This is the only roller coaster, where all 9 riders complained of both neck and shoulder injuries together. Riders mentioned a rough jerky ride that caused the tops of their shoulders to repeatedly  strike the restraint. As for their necks, they mentioned having them whipped around during the ride.

 Thorpe Park

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 4 injuries reported to ASO
  • 22 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Saw - The Ride: 10 riders complained of neck  pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All injuries on this ride seemed to center on uncomfortable rough turns and drops -- which caused riders necks to whip around violently.
    • Nemesis Inferno: 8 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
    • Stealth: 2 riders failed to keep their heads back before launch -- resulting in whiplash. Both injured acknowledge their mistake and wanted to merely FYI those riding: keep your head back.
    • Colossus: 2 riders indicated blurry vision and headache after riding this 10 inversion roller coaster. Cause is unknown.

 Tivoli Gardens

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 2 injuries reported to ASO
  • 7 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • D�monen: 7 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason. One rider did mentioned having prior circulatory issues with their left leg.

 Universal Studios - Orlando

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 9 injuries reported to ASO
  • 22 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • The Simpsons Ride: 17 riders complained of neck pain, back pain, and vision issues after riding this motion simulator:
      • 7 riders mentioned being whipped around during the ride causing back pain.
      • 5 riders mentioned neck pain pain, which they said had to do with the sudden movements made by this ride.
      • 5 riders said they came off of this ride with blurry vision and issues with walking. After resting they said everything was okay.
    • Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit: 5 riders mentioned back pain associated with riding this roller coaster. All 5 said this occurred as they pulled out of the bottom 1st drop.
 Universal Studios - Hollywood
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 25 injuries reported to ASO
  • 43 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Revenge of the Mummy: 23 riders complained of back pain after riding this roller coaster. All riders mentioned that this occurred during the backwards portion of the ride, which was described as rough and uncomfortable.
    • The Simpsons Ride: 20 riders complained of neck pain, back pain, and vision issues after riding this motion simulator:
      • 11 riders said they came off of this ride with blurry vision headache.
      • 7 riders mentioned being whipped around during the ride causing back pain. 4 of the 7 mentioned some movements of the ride vehicle did not correspond with what was going on the screen.
      • 2 riders mentioned neck pain pain, which they said had to do with the sudden movements made by this ride.
 Universal Islands of Adventure
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 16 injuries reported to ASO
  • 33 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Incredible Hulk: 25 riders complained of neck and shoulder pain after riding this roller coaster:
      • 18 riders mentioned neck pain after getting off this ride. Said it was mainly due to this rides first inversion.
      • 7 riders mentioned striking the top of their shoulders into this rides restraint during inversions, also in the first loop.
    • Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey: 8 riders complained of headache and vision problems after getting off this ride. We have been unable to pin point a cause.

An employee who assists us with information on the park mentioned that a lot of these riders typically were showing signs of dehydration.

 Valleyfair!

  • 8/14/12: A power failure due to, "equipment failure," caused the park to close early. Riders on Wild Thing were evacuated using stairs to the side of the lift hill. Riders on the park's Ferris Wheel were evacuated using a generator to power the ride up. No injuries were reported.
  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 8 injuries reported to ASO
  • 8 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Steel Venom: 3 riders complained of neck pain after riding this roller coaster. All 3 mentioned failing to keep their head back during the launch.
    • Renegade: 4 riders complained of back and side related pain associated with riding this roller coaster. They all made mentioned of this ride's side to side movements causing them to move around violently from side to side. One of the riders, acknowledged a prior issue with his arms, which did not allow him to brace himself against the side to side motions by grabbing the lap bar.
    • Wild Thing: 1 rider mentioned headache and vertigo after getting off ride. They mentioned not consuming any food or water during their visit. Their mid-day incident, according to them, occurred when it was hot and humid.

 Waldameer

  • As of 6/30/12 there has been 1 injury reported to ASO
  • 4 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Ravine Flyer II: 2 riders indicated back pain after riding roller coaster. Mentioned that trains were snug and didn't allow for much movement, which they said translated into their back taking the brunt of the forces caused by the ride. Both riders were sitting in the last row of the roller coaster train.
    • Steel Dragon: 2 riders sustained upper arm pain while riding this ride. Both had the same story -- in that they were using arms to try and keep their children back during the ride, which strained their upper arms. Both mentioned they were just trying to keep their child back against their seats -- which was instructed by ride operators. For riders to remain seated with their heads and backs against the seat at all times.

 Worlds of Fun

  • As of 6/30/12 there have been 10 injuries reported to ASO
  • 11 Significant Injuries Reported to ASO in 2011
    • Timber Wolf: there were a total of 6 injuries:

      • 3 were reported as neck related. Riders indicated that this ride was so rough that it caused their necks to stiffen up.

      • 1 rider indicated back pain after riding. They, too, indicated a rough ride that was uncomfortable and not fun.

      • 2 riders indicated vision problems after getting off of the ride. Said the ride shook them to the point they could not see straight. Headache was also mentioned along with the vision problems. Said issue was resolved after sitting down and "taking it easy."

    • Prowler: 2 riders indicated back pain after riding roller coaster. Said pain was caused by rapid side to side motions caused by the ride. Indicated ride wasn't rough -- but more an issue of being caught off guard by how intense the side to side motions were.

    • Patriot: 3 riders complained of losing feeling in their legs after getting off of ride,. This is a re-occurring issue with this type of roller coaster. It's unknown, however, the exact reason.
